Argentina legend Diego Maradona managed to suppress a fit of giggles while making the claim that he has been clean of drugs for over a decade.

The iconic 54-year-old took to his Facebook page to post a video message to his legions of fans, saying that the love of his family has kept him clean for the last twelve years.

In the video, the man who almost single-handedly won his nation the 1986 World Cup said: ‘(I have) chosen to live life for my daughters, grandchildren and those still to come.

‘Weed doesn’t count as drugs though, right?’

Maradona’s battle with drugs and alcohol form part of the legend of a player considered the only equal to Pelé, and he took the opportunity to have a dig at his Brazilian peer, saying: ‘Unlike him, I don’t need pills for my poronga, baby,’ and then signing off with ‘a big kiss to all my fans’.
