David de Gea’s failed move from Manchester to Real Madrid took a new twist this morning after the goalkeeper returned to training to find teammate Juan Mata decked out in his previously thought abandoned training kit.
A computer glitch lead to de Gea’s proposed transfer to the Spanish giants falling through at the last minute, and was further complicated when he was forced to sheepishly report at the Aon Training Complex this morning, with colleagues having already gone through his stuff and claimed any items that caught their eye.
De Gea told reporters: ‘It was very hard today, no doubt. I thought I’d be flying back to Spain today, and maybe training with Cristiano Ronaldo this afternoon. Imagine my shock when I had to go back to Carrington only to find Juan wearing my gear. He just looked at me and said, “What are you doing here?”
‘I lost myself for a minute, and turned to leave the dressing room, when I then saw Daley Blind splashing my Tom Ford cologne on his face. I mean, the fucking cheek, right?’
Real have not given up hope on getting de Gea’s move over the line, with an appeal expected to be lodged with FIFA later today. De Gea meanwhile will be spending the day trying to get his gloves back off reserve keeper Sam Johnstone.
