José Mourinho has sparked fears for his well-being after using a press conference to reflect on happier times, and to wonder why his life has taken a sudden turn for the worse.
The Chelsea manager was responding to a question from the floor about a failed £20 million bid for Everton defender John Stones.
Mourinho said: ‘There was a time when love was blind, and the world was a song, and the song was exciting.
‘There was a time, when it all went wrong’, he continued, ‘I dreamed a dream in time gone by, when hope was high and life worth living’.
When asked if Chelsea would go in with an improved bid for the 21-year-old, Mourinho replied: ‘I still dream he’ll come to me; that we will live the years together. But there are dreams that cannot be, and there are storms we cannot weather’.
Everton are said to be unwilling to entertain any suggestions that their exciting prospect may depart Goodison Park this summer.
