Fans of Tottenham Hotspur are today speaking of their unhappiness of having pretty much nothing to complain about, in a move that has sent shockwaves throughout North London.
Despite being tipped for a mid-table finish at the start of the season, Spurs find themselves fifth in the Premier League, just four points off joint-top Manchester City and Leicester City, and boasting an impressive plus thirteen goal difference.
Gary Hamblyn, a long-time season ticket holder, said: ‘Things were looking pretty bleak at the start of the season, and when the transfer window closed and Harry Kane was our only recognised striker, and bang out of form, it looked like we were heading back to mid-table mediocrity. But he’s regained his scoring touch, we’ve got an outstanding defence, and a top four place looks possible. I don’t like it’.
One fan, speaking after the game, said: ‘I suppose we could moan about only drawing against Chelsea, but even that’s a sign of how far we’ve come in the last two years. So, yeah, it’s all good I guess’, before he sauntered off down Tottenham High Road looking confused.
Tottenham are unbeaten in the league since their opening day defeat to Manchester United, and are beginning to play a more open brand of football. On top of that, Mousa Dembélé’s stunning return to form means that only Federico Fazio remains as a hate figure amongst the supporters, and as he hasn’t played since being cruelly exposed in their League Cup defeat to Arsenal, means that there are practically no players left to draw the ire of the White Hart Lane faithful.
‘They’re all just so likeable,’ another fan said, ‘from Lloris in goal through Alderweireld, Alli, Dier and Son. Even Lamela’s looked decent this year. It’s all thoroughly bizarre, and I’m not sure I’m comfortable with it all’.
Tottenham will hope to keep the good times rolling when they take on West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on December 5.
