Louis van Gaal has spoken about his daring new 1-8-1 formation, which he is confident will sweep all before him in the upcoming season at home and abroad.
The Manchester United manager has invested heavily in midfield recruits, with full back Matteo Darmian and winger Memphis Depay joined in recent days by holding players Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, whilst strikers Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie have both departed Old Trafford.
Van Gaal said: ‘For many years now, people have said that central midfield was the achilles heel in the United body. Well, that is the case no more. With all these midfielders now here, I am confident that this new, bold 1-8-1 lineup will return the Premier League trophy to the red side of Manchester, and the Champions League as well’.
David De Gea, considered a prime target for Real Madrid, remains for now, and it is thought the team in front of him will be: Darmian; Di Maria, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Blind, Fellaini, Depay; Mata; Rooney.
